and not only could we sleep there, they also cooked the best indian

i found eddy izzard a few days ago. or at least a doll in the window
of a chinese goods store which looks just like eddy izzard jr.

this movie was really something different when i saw it the first time, i thought it was a comedy when i picked it up from one of the shelves in the video store, someone probably put it the wrong place. i'm glad they did.

Denys Lazdun

This guy designed one of my absolute favourite buildings in London,
the National Theatre. Went to a lecture about him and his work at the
Royal Institution tonight. It was a really good lecturer with a Ph.D
on Lazdun, and he answered all questions really well too.

And I bought a book. Wonder when I will have time to read it...

Lasagna!

I've never cooked lasagna myself before. But it looks good and smells
wonderful, i think it's edible

a new habitat

this is where i live now. London. The Smoke. this is also where i work, breathe, sleep, eat and think. i have been here for two weeks to the day, and time is strange here. feels like a long time ago, but also like yesterday.

i walk as often and far. trying to get a feeling for distances, the different areas and how they fade from one to another. i draw lines on maps. trying to find good places for coffee, small details or moments of great atmosphere. i try to read, both fiction and non-fiction. i'm waiting for Junichiro's 'In Praise of Shadows', thinking it will be good for me.

i saw Hammershøi at the Royal Academy of Arts today, the last day of the exhibition. strange with so many people walking around and watching paintings imbued with such calm.

the dirty love affair

eight years ago i visited london for the first time, and i clearly remember the feeling i got when leaving the tube at oxford circus and going up to the light, sound and smell on oxford street. i thought i would feel overwhelmed, but strangely, i didn't. the reason i can't forget this moment is because what i felt, and that was "i'm home".
what a strange feeling to get the first time you arrive in a new city. since then my appetite for world cities hasn't stopped. hopefully london will be my home at last this fall.

the lights flash

a friend told me of a song, memories came back to me, it wasn't the the song, even though i've heard it before. the lyrics told me about a memory not so old.

pj harvey sings:

"On a rooftop in Brooklyn
One in the morning
Watching the lights flash
In Manhattan..."

i know the song isn't about the city, it is a scene for the story of the song. but that city is the scene for so many stories and memories, it is part of it. and for me these four lines brings memories, memories from the city.
